What Cause The Habit Of Head Butting Into Hard Objects In A Toddler When He Gets Angry?

Question: My 2y/o grandson has a habit of pounding his head on hard objects or head butting things, usually when he’s mad or upset. He actually head butted my daughter & broke her nose. He’s been doing this since he was around a yr old. He’s very social, all milestones being met except doesn’t talk much. Is always on the go, very active. His Pediatrician doesn’t seem concerned, says lots of kids do that but I’m concerned. It can’t be good for his head physically I wouldn’t think. I would appreciate your views on this.

Brief Answer:
Probably attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder, follow the advice below.

Detailed Answer:

Hello,

The symptoms of your grand son can be related to attention-deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).
Sometime a child can be hyperactive without having ADHD, so an examination by a child psychiatrist is needed to confirm the diagnosis.

Meanwhile some advices that I can give to you are:
- Try to stay calm
- Make a routine for the child
- Limit distractions
- Encourage healthy food and sleep for your grandson
- If the diagnosis is confirmed prescription medication can be taken by the psychiatrist.

Hope my answer was helpful. If you have further queries feel free to contact me again.
