Posted on Tue, 5 May 2015
Question: I have a rare eye disease called Eales disease complicated by glaucoma and Uvutis , have undergone 200 laser surgeries, vitrectomy surgery twice, laser surgery to weld the retina in place twice, am on drops to try to reduce the eye pressure have been put on steroids several times and last week had some kind of injection in my eye to release medicine to try to control the uvitius. My question is the Doctor I am now seeing is not comucative with me, leaves it up to his staff to explaine what is going on and the night of the procedure my eye was extremely dry and I called the after hours number to get advice, I thought a nurse would call me back, I nearly wanted to know if I could put some kind of eye drops to lumber ate my eye, the Dr. Called my back and when I started to explaine what I wanted to know he interrupted my and very rudely asked me if this was an emergency, I told him no I mearly wanted to know he cut me off and informed me that that was an emergency line and that his hours were 8 to 5 and hung up on me. I am supposed to see him again in six weeks but feel that I did not deserve to be treated that way and don't want to see him again, but that speciality is very close and I'm not sure what to do. I am dealing with terminal cancer and have been dealing with the Eales disease since I was 20 years old and the retina doctors treat me like its my fault that their treatments are not working I don't know what to do any suggestions. I live in XXXXXXX or so pretty small community.

Hello
Welcome to Health care magic

I am Dr Dadapeer k an ophthalmologist and I answer health problems related to eye.
I reviewed your history and I can understand your concerns.

No need to be worried, Eales disease is a type of disease which requires regular follow up and treatment. The overall prognosis of the disease is fairly good but the treatment course is relatively long.

Please do send me the details of reports if any which you will be having so that I can assess the stage and advice you accordingly regarding the further treatment.

Thank you

So should I keep seeing this doctor even though I am not getting any answers from him? Or try to find someone with a better bedside manner and willing to to discuss my case?

Brief Answer:
It is better to try to find some other doctor who can discuss with you.

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thank for the follow up question.

I personally feel a patient should be comfortable with his doctor for success of treatment. A doctor should give proper time and explain all the modes of treatment.
This becomes important in treatment of diseases which require regular and long term follow up.

Hence personally I would like to suggest you to find some eye doctor who can discuss a case with you.

Hope this answers your question.

Thank you
