What Causes JAK2 Gene Mutation?

default
Posted on Wed, 2 Dec 2015
Question: I was referred to a rheumatologist by my primary care physician because my ana was 1:1280 and RF 14 (borderline). although my esr and c reactive are good he wants to take an xray of my hand. I have put him this month bit as I have had the following exposures to radiation as follows:
Mammogram 7/6/15
Bone Density 9/21/15
Chest Xray 9/21/15
Chest CT scan 9/29/15
Am I being alarmist or would it be best to wait..or am i out of line to ask for an MRI?
Also, I have been diagnosed with Jak2 gene mutation which i read could be triggered by radiation exposure..is this enough to do that? This service has been wonderful for me over the last month...I really appreciate it

Brief Answer:
Please get hands X ray done without any hesitation

Detailed Answer:
Hi xxxxxxx,
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
Please find my observations below.

1. The radiation from a X ray of hands is among the least hazardous and counts for 0.001 mSv.

2. You will not have any higher risk of cancer after getting the X ray done. Therefore please go ahead and have your hands X ray generated. The increased risk of cancer from the mammogram, bone densitometry, chest X ray and CT scan chest is about 0.033 percent and is really low.

3. There is no need to wait. Asking for MRI is out of line to screen for any arthritis.

Hope your query is answered.
Please do write back if you have any doubts.
