What Causes Notalgia Paresthetica?
Question: I have been diagnosed with Notalgia Paresthetica. What is this?
Brief Answer:
It is a cutaneous sensory neuropathy
Detailed Answer:
Hi and thank you so much for this query.
I am so sorry to hear about this diagnosis. This is a disease which affects the sensory nerves of the skin. This is often characterized by pruritus in a unilateral, dermatomal distribution in the mid-back. Chronic pruritus is sometimes accompanied by pain, abnormal sensation, or altered sensation to touch. It is relatively common.
Gabapentin is a good drug for this condition and may take up to three weeks before we see any major effects. So do well to exercise patience until it starts working fully.
I wish you well.
