What Causes PCOD?
This is regarding my menstruation cycle. I got my periods on 5th Sep, 2014 and again I started bleeding (a drop or 2) on 19th Sep and from 23rd Sep the bleeding increased. During my first cycle there was no release on fibers and muscular mass, however this time there is more release of fibers. I am slo feeling very weak and dizzy; there is loss of appetite too (sometimes).
I got my CBC blood tests done and an ultrasound too. My haemoglobin is low (11.3) and my ultrasound says PCO.
My gynae has asked me to observe this month (since it was the first time in my life that i had experienced this). She has prescribed me Etosys and Mephtal for stopping my bleeding and a multivitamin. Though I haven't started taking the medicines, I just wanted a second opinion.
My question:
1) What is the root cause of this condition?
2) Will the medicines cause any other side effect?
3) Is weakness due to this only or shall I get some other tests done?
Your response is awaited.
Thanks,

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX I understand your health concern.
PCOD is a common endocrine abnormality and is associated with irregular cycles typically.
It is a common disease and may not cause any problem in future.
The drugs given to you are very simple drugs which will decrease the blood flow and help you recover from menstrual flow early so that you feel better and not weak like you are feeling right now.
Your gynecologist is right in advising you rest and observation for this cycle.
In case this recurrs then you will be evaluated on day 2 of your menstrual cycle in the form of blood levels of hormones and transvaginal ultrasound.
It can be managed easily especially when is a mild affection like in your case.
Take care.
Thanks for your prompt response.
I have started taking the medicines from yesterday (prescribed 3 times a day for 3 days). Today is my second day and I took my fourth dose in the morning, however I don't see any decrease in my flow, rather it has increased (I am having normal flow like I have during my periods).
Do I need to worry?
Thanks and Regards,
XXXX
normal periods
Detailed Answer:
Hi, its good that bleeding has started in its full flow that is suggestive of the fact that your normal periods have started.
Keep taking medicines till flow stops and mist probably in 2-3 days.
Wait for your next cycle.
In case normal pattern starts there is nothing to worry but in case irregularities persists then you need an ultrasound to delineate the abnormality.
Take care.
Also when this time I got my ultrasound done, it was normal and except PCO. I still have 5 doses to take. Will trouble you again if needed :)
