Hello XXXXXXX karner
Thanks for writing back
With limited information,i try my best to explain the things.
I expect that you will understand my situation. It is a very sensitive issue and it relates to your precious baby.
Rubella infection shouldn't be taken lightly especially in first trimester of pregnancy because in early gestational weeks it causes detrimental effects to the fetus especially in first 12-13 weeks.
There is a very high risk (up to 90%) that baby will be affected. There is greater risk to the baby if mother is infected earlier.
I was stressing upon full reports because it is important to know whether Ig G or Ig M is positive in the reports.
Diagnosis of rubella infection is usually made by detection of rubella specific IgM. There are chances of false positive results and it may be due to cross reacting IgM antibodies or rheumatoid factor.Besides this rubella specific IgM may present for one year or more after natural infection, vaccination or after asymptomatic reinfection. So,positive test result needs to be interpreted with caution.
It is very important to take history of rash or contact with rash, previous rubella testing and history of vaccination.
Where as if rubella Ig G is high,it indicates past infection. It is not the concerning factor.
Proper management depends upon considering all the facts.
Hope i have answered your query.
Further queries are most welcome.
