Question: Hi,

Myself XXXX here. My father is suffering from the urine blood problem. Ultrasound reported that he has enlarge prostate. He can't undergo surgery because he has two stunts in heart. Doctor has advised him not to go for any surgery.
We have consulted one doctor and he has give 5 days antibiotic to him. After 5 days he started feeling little relax and during that period he has used cathrator also for urination. After some time we found puss coming along with urine in catherator tube and Doctor advised us to remove cathreator. and provided with some new antibiotic for next 3 days.
After next 3 days medicine is over my father again has started feeling itching in his penis and around. and than we found little bleedy urine again. Than we have done urine test and it reported 60 puss cell. and now we have stopped all antibiotic and given urine sample for urine culture test.
Can I know why after taking so much antibiotic courses this infection is not getting over.

Brief Answer:
Possibility of mixed bacterial urinary infections

Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.

I have read through your query in detail.
There are many types of bacteria which can cause infection of the urinary tract. Sometimes one antibiotic may control one particular bacteria but may not be able to fight another one. Use of catheter causes further mixed bacterial infections at times. Your doctor wants to make sure which antibiotic will act against all the disease causing bacteria and that is why urine culture and sensitivity is being done.

At the same time your father must take in adequate amounts of water and fluids and pass urine frequently so that there is lesser chance of bladder infections.

Hope your query is answered.
Do write back if you have any doubts.
