What Causes A 8 Month Old Child To Refuse Semi Solid Food?
Semi solid food should be palatable too
Detailed Answer:
Thanks for asking on HealthCareMagic. Weaning with semisolids is a new experience for children of this age. Let me mention that it is basically a transition to adult food low on spices. It simply has to be given in a mashed form since the teeth are not ready to grind and cut food properly and the gastro-intestinal tract is still in development. You have to maintain a balance of pulses (protein) and cereals (carbohydrates) along with vegetables boiled together and mashed up. It does not necessarily have to be bland. Probably it is due to the blandness that your child is refusing the semi solids that you are giving to him. Just check if the food you are giving to the child is palatable for you as well, if not, do the needful. You can give a mashed up version of basically any adult food so long as it is not too spicy. Just be reasonable.
I would not suggest giving chapati or parantha which contain more oil and are made of wheat. They are harder to digest. I would prefer rice based items instead.
The weight of a child at birth generally doubles by 5th month of age and triples by 10-12th month of age. So depending upon the birth weight, your child has probably adequate weight gain, if not more. The child is growing fine and you simply need not worry about it.
