What Causes A Big Sore With Blistering On The Lip After Using Efudex Cream On My Lip?
Question: I was given Efudex cream to put on my lips because I had an area that was dry and crusty and a little hard. my lips became like a big sore and blistered inside. it doesn't seem to be healing as quickly as lips usually do and I stopped the cream 4 days ago. what does that mean?
Brief Answer:
Seems to be an irritant reaction, cortisone cream & moisturizing cream
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
I have gone through your complaints and you seem to have developed an irritant reaction to efudex cream.
Efudex cream does causes irritation, dryness and redness.
I would recommend you to apply a topical steroid like cortisone cream on the lips twice daily along with frequent and liberal application of a moisturising cream containing white soft paraffin on the entire lips 4-5 times in a day.
This will resolve it.

Thank you for your reply. I was given Efudex because the area possibly had pre cancerous cells and I was told the cream would fix that, and it was better than having a disfiguring biopsy, however, I have since been back to the dr. and he said I had a "good reaction" to the cream. However my concern was the healing time, It is still cracked and bleeding as I write this, but it is healing extremely slowly. the dr.did exactly as you said. Gave me a 2.5 cortisone cream to use twice daily and said to keep vaseline on them. So what do you think? is all normal and if it was pre cancer, is it gone?
Brief Answer:
Welcome
Detailed Answer:
It is normal to have this kind of reaction with efudex cream.
Yes the precancerous cells will be destroyed with this kind of reaction.
So it’s better for you.
