What Causes A Black Spot On The Sole Of The Foot?
Question: Hi, I have a hard, black, scaly growth on the sole of my left foot and I'm curious as to what it is. The bottom of the scales(pointing towards my heel) are loose but is attached to my skin towards the top. I have tried to look up everything dealing with foot fungus and nothing looks like what I have on my left foot.

Hello
Thanks for the query and photograph.
It's looking like a psoriatic plaque.
I would like to know few additional details.
1. Since when you have this plaque ?
2. Is there any pain or any other symptoms?
3. Is there bleeding from the plaque?
4. Any seasonal variation ?
5. Does it keep subsiding and aggravating or it has remained the same since years?
I would like to know these details to rule out other damgerous conditions like squamous cell carcinoma.
Waiting for your response.
Thank you.

Thanks for replying! I have had this since I was maybe 5 years old. There is no pain that it causes but there is some discomfort when I walk barefoot, it feels like I'm stepping on a small hard object. There is no bleeding or anything. It has remained the same since as long as I can remember. One of the "scales" or "plates" actually came off last year when I was playing sports, it bled for a few hours like a normal cut, healed up shortly after, and months later it was the same as before so I'm not sure how to get rid of it.
Brief Answer:

Detailed Answer:
Hello
Thanks for the follow up.
It is looking like psoriatic plaque.
I treat such cases with a combination of steroid cream and salicylic acid.
A combination of clobetasol and salicylic acid cream to be applied twice daily for a month works well.
It is safe and effective.
You can try this.
Let me know if you have any other doubts.
Thank you.
