What Causes A Blood Blister Under The Nail Post An Accident?

default
Posted on Fri, 25 Nov 2016
Question: I rollerskate at work and my skate came apart one day while skating. I smashed into the wall with my big toe. I got a blood blister under my nail and most of it recently fell off. However, now there is a speed bump sort of thing towards the bottom of my nail where the whole nail didn't fall off. Just wondering what this could be and if there should be any concern behind it.

Brief Answer:
Possible not normal nail shape because of damage of nail bed.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for using HCM to post your question.
I read it carefully and I understand your concern.

From your description it looks like part of the nail has fallen of because of the trauma.
Sometimes a part of it its not damaged completely and has a little blood supply, so manages not for fall off but since the bed of the nail is damaged, that leads to growing in an abnormal shape of nail.
Sometimes with the time it regenerates back to normal, but that if the nail root has not been damaged.

Please upload a photo of it so I can double check and confirm my answer.

Looking forward to your follow up question.
