What Causes A Bump On The Knee?
Local antibiotics might be tried- some other advices
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thank you for asking at HealthcareMagic.
I carefully read your question and understand your concern.
Because this is a visible lesion it would be very good to have a picture of it to better understand the reason for this lump. Still i am going to write on the most likely causes.
The lump that brings up puss might be due to several causes and the first to consider is skin. Sometimes an infection of the root of the hair (hair folicle) might get infected and cause the itchyness sensation and bring up puss. Different hair folicles might get infected time after time and that might be the reason you get that repeatedly.
The folicle infection is generally self limited, which means there is no need for specific treatment for it but if it is bothersome than antibiotics might be used. 1. Local antibiotics like fuscidic acid might be a good choice.
2. if no improvement in 2-3 days than it would be a good idea to use oral antibiotics (Augmentine is a great option but if allergic to penicillines than it is best to use Clarythromycine).
3. Local warm compresses might help with inflammation being localized on the lesion and bring pus out easier.
4. Keep good hygiene of the area and wash hands well after every time you touch or take care of the area
Very rarely the cause would come from underneath the skin.
I hope i have answered to your questions and this is helpful to you but please feel free to write back if anymore clarifications are needed on this issue. I would recommend you to send a picture or two also to have a better understanding of the cause and best treatment for it.
Kind regards
