What Causes A Constant Pulsing Sensation On The Head?
Possibilities of 'Tension type headache'/Migraine.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being here on Healthcaremagic.com.
I am Dr. Ajay Panwar, a neurologist, here to answer your query.
Coming to your query,
Apparently you are on medications-Duloxetine 60 mg once a day, Bupropion 300 mg once a day, Lansoprazole 30 mg once a day and simvastatin 10 mg once a day, for last few years.
These medication schedule indicate that you are probably having 'Tension type headache' diagnosed by your physician. (However,I could not understand why you are taking simvastatin?)
However, pulsatile headache is characteristic of 'Migraine'.
Please answer these questions so that I can answer your query well with regards to your diagnosis-
1) Is headache unilateral (on one side of head) or bilateral (on both sides)?
2) Is nausea, photophobia (increased headache on exposure to bright light) or phonophobia (increased headache on exposure to sound) associated?
3) Is it episodic or persistent? If episodic, what is the frequency of episodes?
4) Is the headache triggered by any factor like-smoking, alcohol, stress, sunlight or any food item?
5) Do you have headache after awakening in morning?
6) Why are you taking simvastatin (zocor)?
Please follow-up with these details and I shall be glad to answer your query well.

2. Before menopause I had frequent migraines(two-three per month).
Now, I have mostly barometric change episodes. I do have some nausea.
3. This has been non-stop for two days.
4. No, I do smoke but not excessively> I do not drink.
5. No
6. I take simvastatin because after menopause lipid profile was slightly abnormal
It is 'Migraine' likely.

Hi XXXX,
Thanks for being in follow-up.
Coming to the query,
Your headache appears to be 'Migraine'.Points in favour-
1)It is pulsatile and episodic(as now, duration of an episode may last 2-3 days even).
2)Barometric pressure changes are acting as trigger factor-favouring 'Migraine'.
3)Nausea accompanying.
4)It is not present after awakening in the early morning(this feature is seen in 'Tension headache').
5)Past history of 'Migraine'.
6)Your headache not responding to your existing medicines.
Please discuss with your physician to start some of the anti-migraine medicines like 'Beta-blockers',amitriptyline,flunarizine,triptans or anticonvulsants(which have anti-migraine efficacy).
Hope I have answered your query. If you have some follow-up queries,I shall be glad to answer them else, please close the thread-rate it and write a review.
