What Causes A Constant Urge To Defecate After Treating A Stroke In The Lumbar Section?

Question: my husband had a stroke in the lumbar section of his back 10/25/17. He has been numb from his waist down since. No pain. His is a work-a-houlic. He always works and refuse to give up. After about 3 weeks of his stroke he gradually kept trying to do his job. He is self emp./ land clearing/ large tandum truck-excavator-tractors etc. He does keep a cane with him and seldom use it. After the stroke he has a problem with his bm. He says he feel like he needs to go all the time and he feels swollen at the rectal area. He does have a bm some time but not as he always dis. This is his only complaint. The discomfort he has 24/7. He take Metamucil every night. Occasionally he takes a 84.gr asprin. He does not ever take medication. I try to get him to take vitamins. He may take one or B 12 if I can talk him into it. Now he is coming in and will be sleep in five minutes. he says he just feels week. He did go to a neurologist after the stroke which took test and said after six months he would be better or worse. Any suggestions who to contact. He is still numb and I notice he has started to rub or move his leg and says it is because sitting causes the bottom part of his knee to be restless. Thank you,

I appreciate your concern..

There is no indication of a low dose aspirin as per need. Low dose aspirin has to be taken daily for the antiplatelet effect to prevent a stroke.

For the irregularity in bowel movements, I would suggest a combination of alverine citrate with simethicone twice a day for one month.

The case with B 12 is again an issue of medication compliance for which he requires proper counseling from his physician to explain the effects clearly regarding failure to take his medication on time, properly.

In my view, the neurologist who initially examined him after the stroke episode would be the right person to follow up on this case.
