What Causes A Cyst In Gums?

default
Posted on Fri, 8 May 2015
Question: I have a very sore gum above a three tooth permanent bridge. It is at the top of the gum where it meets the cheek tissue. It hurts to touch with finger. Teeth are not sensitive. Feels like a hard lump and hurts to touch. Can see nothing as to a sore. Wonder if root could have accessed or if it could be sinus infection.

Brief Answer:
could be abscess or sinus infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you for your question.
It is possible that you have developed a cyst or abscess in your gum. It is also possible that it is coming form the sinus because the sinuses sit right over the upper teeth. However, if it were a sinus infection you should be having other symptoms like fever and nasal discharge as well. I suggest that you see your dentist or doctor for an evaluation if the problem does not resolve soon. You could try some warm compresses and ibuprofen to help with the pain.
I am sorry you are having this problem and hope you feel better soon

Allergies are really bad here in XXXXXXX right now and this came on so fast thus my thought thatbit might be sinus. I will try the warm compresses and try ibuprofen as opposed to Tylenol. Thank you .

One last question. I dont normally do this but I have an antibiotic, netrofurantoin mono-MRC 100. Would it hurt or help me to take it if this is an infection or cyst/abcess .

It is not the best antibiotic for mouth infections but it would not hurt anything if you wanted to try it.
