What Causes A Dark Bruise On Right Side Hip Bone Of A Child?

Question: My 6 year old son has a bruise on his right side just above his hip bone that has remained a dark purplish color and about six inches in length, 2-3 inches in height throughout the length of it. He has had this bruise for about a week and half now. When I first noticed it when I got him undressed that first night for pajamas and I asked him about it, he had no idea it was there. He said it must have been from when he fell riding his razor scooter but that his side did not hurt. I was not overly concerned at that point because it is normal for my kiddos who are wicked active to get banged up and bruised. However, now that it has not lightened up or dissipated at all, should I be concerned?
Brief Answer:
It might take 3 weeks to disappear
Detailed Answer:
Hi,
welcome to this forum.
Can understand your concerns.
The size of bruise that you have described is quite big. In such a large bruise there is chance of hematoma which heal gradually.
Sometimes, it may take upto 3 weeks to heal for such a large bruise.
If there is no prior history of persistence of bruise then we dont have to worry.
I suggest you revert back with some pictures of bruise for a better diagnosis.
Wishing your child good health.
Take care.
