What Causes A False Positive For Opiates In A Urine Test Result?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 May 2017
Question: Hi- I just did a multi-spectrum urine test for various drugs after feeling high after sex. Came up positive for opiates- well, extremely faint control line barely visible. I am not on opiates. Have had this experience before when boyfriend turned it to be using.
What do you think?

Brief Answer:
It could be false positive

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for using Healthcaremagic.

I read your query and understand your concerns.

Since you are not on opiates there are two possibilities considering positive urine test.

First there is chance that the result was false positive. I must inform you that false positive is not uncommon and can be there in case there is any substance in food with similar structure to opiates. In this regard when you go for further testing (highly sensitive tests) the result turns out negative.

The second possibility is adulteration of your food or drinks with opioids by someone either knowingly or unknowingly.

I hope this helps you.
If you have more questions feel free to write back to me.
Thanks and regards.
