What Causes A Foul Taste In The Mouth And Nausea?

default
Posted on Wed, 26 Apr 2017
Question: I have a bad taste in my mouth that seems to be coming up through my sinuses. I believe my breath is also bad, but cannot tell. It's very persistent. Does not seem to diminish with antacid, breath mints/rinse. I've had it before & eventually it went away, but it concerns me that it's back. Also, some nausea but no vomiting. A little bit of loose stool.

Brief Answer:
there are some things to check out...

Detailed Answer:
Hello,

bad breath/taste can be caused by various disorders. I'll mention some basic (and common) things to check out.
- bad teeth: you should visit a dentist for that, particularly if you have symptoms.
- tonsiloliths: these are white spots on the tonsils. This is smelly debris that accumulates inside little pockets. In most cases they're visible and can be removed easily by an ENT specialist.
- gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD): you should have retrosternal burning and perhaps also pain.
- sinus problems (sinusitis, chronic rhinitis) may affect both your taste and breath. An ENT specialist can diagnose such cases.

I hope you find my comments helpful!
Kind Regards!
