What Causes A Lump On The Kidney Area And Elevated Creatinine Levels?

default
Posted on Thu, 11 May 2017
Question: I can't get in to see my urologist until XXXXXXX or July but I just had a 24 hr urine test done where my protein, potassium, sodium, calcium, magnesium and cretinin levels are more than double the normal level. I have a long history of bladder and kidney infections plus average 2-3 stones per week. Do I need to get in sooner than June/July? I've also been tired, a little off, and found a lump around where the kidney would be. I've upload my test results yesterday afternoon as request but no reply.

Brief Answer:
You need to see the medical facility before the scheduled plan

Detailed Answer:
Hi! Welcome to HealthcareMagic! Thanks for sharing your concerns with us. We will try to help you in best way possible. First of all, it is sad to know what you had been experiencing lately.

Based on the history you have shared, first of all, if there is an acute or recent increase in these reports, you need to see a medical facility or a physicians review earlier than your scheduled visit specially if potassium is raised, that can even be a medical emergency above a certain limit, and needs to be managed.

Also that rise in urea and creatinine, needs to be corrected by intravenous fluids as oral rehydration may not be sufficient and such condition is a medical emergency as acute kidney injury needs to be managed with indoor admission and to be monitored on daily basis with the treatment.

The swelling can be a sequalae of hydronephrosis or obstruction caused by renal stone or inflammation in the kidney and needs to be treated with antibiotics and surgical correction if signs of obstruction are evident on ultrasound or CT scan.

In any case, it needs detailed evaluation to rule out genetic causes of kidney involvements as well as reversible causes to be probed and managed as persistent rise of these parameters may lead to permanent damage to kidneys and is not advisable to be delayed up til then.

Meanwhile keep drinking good amount if water and consult any medical facility ER. Wishing you a speedy recovery. Hope this has answered your query. If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. Regards.
