What Causes A Painful Rash On The Lower Right Abdomen While On Hydrocodone?
Question: My wife had a car accident and has been taking hydrocodone, about 20 mgs a day. She has developed a painful rash on her belly, lower right side. Are these possibly connected? What should she do?
Brief Answer:
not likely
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Drug reaction rashes are rarely isolated to a specific body area. They are usually a fine rash that is spread over the body and are usually itchy, not painful. She needs to see her doctor. It may be that she has developed shingles, a common cause of a painful rash. This could be treated to prevent complications. She needs to see a doctor for an exam of the rash and treatment.

Brief Answer:
so glad to hear that
Detailed Answer:
Hello and thank you so much for the follow up. Getting on the antiviral medications for shingles not only shortens the course of the outbreak but decreases the risk of post-herpetic neuralgia, a very painful condition that can last up to a hear. I am so glad you are on the antiviral mediation.
