I am sure it's not an STD. can i use any over the counter cream to see if it clears up

You can use a topical antibiotic cream - bacitracin containing twice daily.
Also - warm soak in a bathtub for a few days may be helpful.
Of course refrain from any sexual activity for a few days to promote healing.
