What Causes A Red Spot On The Shaft Of The Penis?

Question: I have a bb sized, pinkish, red spot on the shaft of my penis. It is smooth, painless and doesn't itch. It also has never been pus filled and it's been there for about a week. It has at times appeared to have been healing, as a small scab will begin to cover it, but every time I shower or get it wet, the scab comes off. At times, it's very pale and hard to see and at others, it's a bit shinier.

The size is not increasing. A few days ago, it appeared to be healing, was starting to scab, etc. As of now, it looks like it did when I first saw it a week ago. I have had unprotected sex recently but not since I first saw the patch. It is not raised and does not have firm edges, etc. My Gp looked at it and advised to apply neosporin on 8/5 but it hasn't healed.

Ok I will. Thank you. Although it doesn't appear to have any of the physical characteristics of an std, is there anything else that comes to mind that can explain it? Thank you

Just to add a footnote, when stretched or when the penis is erect, the patch is hard to see and because the texture is the same as the skin around it, you can't tell that it's there
