What Causes A Small Non-tender Red Itchy Bump On Top Of The Buttock?

default
Posted on Tue, 19 Apr 2016
Question: I had a small non tender ichy red bump on the top of my buttock that started 5 days ago with no other symptoms. The itching stopped after a day or two. After a day or two it started to look like a purplish blister but I popped it an nothing came out. It is still non tender and just looks like it is trying to heal. I was worried that it was genital herpes since I do have that but it didn't act like the symptoms I normally have associated with that. I took valtrex anyway starting on day 3 and I noticed a painful lymph node(I think) on the left side. I also have been using topical steroid that I had at the house and bacitracin with no real relief. Looks like it is healing. No scabs or crusting over.

Brief Answer:
Most probably localized skin infection

Detailed Answer:
Hello

Thank You for contacting HCM. My name is Dr Muhammad Ali Rauf & i will look into your problem.

I have gone through your query as well as the image attached and would try to help you in the best possible way. Most common cause of rash/bump in such area is due to local skin irritation or infection. Infection can involve adjacent lymph nodes. In most cases it resolves itself in 3-4 days. Following measures will help you in smooth recovery:

- Keep good care of personal hygiene.
- wash buttock area thoroughly after using washroom.
- Apply polyfax plus ointment over the rash thrice a day
- Wash hands before and after touching the rash.
- Cetirizine one at night if itch occurs.

Hopefully you will see improvement in 2-3 days BUT if condition remains same or aggravates then you need to visit hospital for further workup.

Hope I have answered your query. If you have any further questions I will be happy to help if not then don't forget to close the discussion and rate it.
Wishing you good health !!
