What Causes A Swollen Lump In The Middle Of The Buttock?

default
Posted on Wed, 24 Jun 2015
Question: I have a lump in the middle of my right buttock. It has been there for a good while but it had never caused any pain or discomfort. It was orginally about the size of a pea and just seemed like it was a lump of tissue or something. It was really hard. Recently it has swelled swelled and has become somewhat sore. It seems there may may be puss in it but the main structure of the lump is deeper inside the buttock. Can anyone tell me what this is?

Brief Answer:
Infected sebaceus cyst.

Detailed Answer:
Hello!

Thank you for the query.

Can you please attach a photo of it?

Such lump is most likely a sebaceus cyst which has become infected. Sebaceus cyst is a king of benign skin lesion. It does not turn into a cancer, but it tends to become infected and lead to an abscess.
Pain and swelling are typical for infected lesion.

The best you can do is to consult general surgeon with it. The lump should be incised and drained. If its sebaceus cyst, it should be removed completely, otherwise it can recur.

Hope this will help. Feel free to ask further questions.
Regards.
