What Causes A Vague Infiltrate In The Right Upper Lobe?
Question: WHAT DOES THIS MEAN????? This is from an xray performed on April 24
There is elevation of the left hemidiaphragm, present on the earlier study
from December 10, 2014. There is a vague infiltrate in the right
upper lobe, an adverse change from December 10, 2014. There is some
prominence of the interstitial markings in the inferior aspect of the
right lung. The changes in the inferior aspect of the right lung are
similar to what is seen on the earlier study. There is mildly
increased stranding density in the left lung base since that earlier
study that could represent a slight degree of volume loss or
infiltrate. The heart is mildly enlarged. There is degenerative
change involving the spine. There is slight diaphragmatic flattening
on the lateral projection.

Major finding is vague infiltrate in the right upper lobe,it may be due to many causes like infection.This need clinical evaluation.Empirically you may need antibiotics depending upon clinical findings.You may also need follow up X-rays to see resolution.
Other findings are benign.There is elevation of left dome of diaphragm.It may be due to volume loss in left lower lobe.
There are also prominence of the interstitial markings in the inferior aspect of right lung.This is a benign finding and it may be due to age related,past infection etc.
Heart is also mildly enlarged in size.It may be age related,chronic hypertension etc.
Degenerative changes in spine is age related finding.
You are rightly suggested for PET scan.
