What Causes Abdominal Bloating And Severe Acidity After Discontinuation Of Ilaprazole?

Discussion folllows
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Welcome and thanks for your query.
Ilaprazole is a proton pump inhibitor and reduces the acid production in your stomach. Your symptoms were relieved by the acid suppression mainly. Velgut is a probiotic and contains friendly microbes which will grow in your gut and help suppress harmful bacteria. If you have stopped the Ilaprazole, you should restart it. This would probably reduce your symptoms. Avoid spicy , acidic food and caffeinated drinks, alcohol and smoking if you use any of these. Avoiding and managing stress well are also very important.
If you are not better, I think you should discuss urea breath test and Hydrogen breath test with your doctor. Endoscopic examination of the GI tract is another option.

Ilaprazole once daily for 20 days, velgut cap twice daily, Gaviscon syrup 10 ml twice daily for 20 days. I now have a bloated stomach with acidity, gas and cramp. My concerns are as follows.
1. I in error took velgut cap for 20 days (twice daily), can this be an overdose and the cause of my stomach bloating?
2. Gavison syrup contains sodium in a very high amount. Velgut capsules contains salts of different types. Could this be the cause of my stomach bloating due to very high intake of sodium and salts?
No harm done
Detailed Answer:
Gaviscon when taken with Ilaprazole decreases the effect of Ilaprazole. So there should be 2 hour gap between the two.
You can take a probiotic like velgut for 20 days or more. There is no harm.
Sodium does not produce bloating. It may influence the blood pressure.
Relax, no harm has been done. Take Ilaprazole up to twice a day depending on your symptoms.

Depends of precipitating factors.
Detailed Answer:
Duration of medication depends on the cause of the lesions and the aggravating factors. Usually the lesions heal in 6 weeks. But if H. Pylori is present and is not treated, they recur. All PPIs work the same way and you can take any of the ones mentioned by you.
There are people who take these tablets for years as they are not able to get rid of precipitating factors like stress or NSAIDs.
The time to take these medicines is in the morning half an hour before breakfast and the chances of insomnia are least then. You can use a H2 blocker like Ranitidine at night if the morning dose is not sufficient to keep you symptoms free.
