Question: Severe stomach cramping for 2 days - initial problem I thought was constipation. I took a bottle of Magnesium citrate and about 6 hours later had a large bm, However the cramping is still here, in addition I have had muscle cramps in the stomach area and in my legs. I am in bed with the pain which is so rare for me.

Brief Answer:
Try to get the correct diagnosis asap since the problem is for 2 days

Detailed Answer:
Hi.
Thanks for your query.
Noted the history and understood your concerns.
If the cramping has not been relieved by Mag Citrate or large motion or exlax I would think about the following as possible causes:
Plain constipation never gives severe cramps.
There may be associated reasons like Colitis or obstruction.

Please give additional information for me to assist you better:
Is there associated nausea, vomiting, bloating?
Any fever or any other constitutional symptoms?

I would advise you the following in such a situation since the cramping is for two days and keeping you bedridden:
Please go to ER so that a clinical evaluation and investigation will give the most probable diagnosis without which a proper treatment is not possible.
X-ray of the abdomen in standing position.
Ultrasonography of the whole abdomen.
Relevant tests of blood, urine and stool.
Any other tests like CT scan and so on as per the clinical evaluation.

I hope this answer helps you to get a proper diagnosis at the earliest so that a proper plan of management can be done.
Please feel free to ask for further relevant queries if you feel that there is a gap of communication.
