What Causes Abdominal Distention, Bloating And Gas?
Question: Dear Dr. XXXXXXX XXXXXXX
I'm suffering from abdominal distention, bloating and gas all the time and it's worse and worse. Several years ago I got a really bad food intoxication and had diareah and was vomiting all day for one week without eating anything. Since then, I started to have these symptoms I decribed above and this year I documented and foundd out that it could be due to bacterial overgrowth in the small intestine. So one month ago I did a hydrogen breath test and yes, it's exactly what I seem to have. The doctor told me the results show clear bacterial overgrowth and prescribed me natural products to treat it but said that the best way to cure it is to follow a course of Rifaximine for two weeks as an American medical center (Cedar Sinai) do. My problem is that even if I know I have this bacterial overgrowth, my country (France) doesn't sell this product and my only solution is to contact an online Doctor to get a prescription to treat it. I heard that India is aware of this treatment (Rifaximin) and I hoped I can find a good gastroenterologist that can help me. I saw you have good ratings so I contacted you.
I tried many things to cure it including many probiotics but they didn't do anything and even made my symptoms worse. Also I did a low carbohydrate diet, took oregan pills and colloïdal silver but only very little improvements.
So could you help me to get this medication ? I can provide you my breath test results and maybe translate it if you want.

Detailed Answer:
Hello! Thanks for putting your query in HCM. I am a Gastroenterologist (DM).
Bacterial overgrowth is well treated by antibiotics. Rifaxmin is a non absorbable antibiotic which is effective in same. If there is problem in getting this medicine in France you can take other antibiotic like metronidazole which I found very useful in my patients suffering from bacterial overgrowth
I hope I have answered your query and this will help you. If you have any further query I will be happy to answer that too. Remain in touch and get-well soon.
