Posted on Mon, 14 Dec 2015
Question: Hi, I and my girlfriend had unprotected sex on 8th Nov i.e. 3 days after her periods were over. She was virgin and 24 year old. On 10th Nov she took ipill. After 2 days she started having vaginal bleeding. This is still continuing till today. Earlier she was having abdominal pain but it is alright now. She is also having Breast tenderness & mood swings.
Kindly comment about this vaginal bleeding & should we consult a local gynecologist.

Brief Answer:
Due to side effect of I-pill.

Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for trusting us with your health concern.
The vaginal bleeding that she is having is due to the side effect of I-pill that she took. It is a high dose hormonal pill and causes such irregular bleeding. Her next periods may be delayed by a few days. The breast tenderness is also related to the pill. There is no need to worry.
The bleeding will gradually stop on its own. In case it is a heavy bleeding and is persistent then you need to consult a gynecologist and get the hormonal pills prescribed.
Please feel free to discuss further. I will be glad to answer the follow up queries that you have.
Wishing you good health.

Hi,
Thanks for your valuable advice.
Kindly help me by clearing few of the doubts in my mind.
1. What kind of long/short terms effect will be there on uterus after using ipill?
2. For how long time the tenderness in breast & excess belly weight will be there?
3. When we can expect next period if ipill was taken after 2 days of period and vaginal bleeding which was started after taking ipill is about to stop by tomorrow? Kindly note that last period ended on 5th Nov.
4. Will the future periods would be normal?
Thanks & regards.

Brief Answer:
Details below.

Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Thanks for writing again.
1. Using I-pill frequently can cause irregular cycles due to improper growth of the uterine endometrium. It usually has no long term side effects.
2. The tenderness and heaviness will subside in 4-6 weeks.
3. The next period is difficult to predict. It can happen anytime between 5-15 Dec.
4. Yes. Her future periods will be normal.
Hope my answer is helpful.
