What Causes Abdominal Pain While Suffering From Ebstein Barre Virus Infection?

Question: My 10 year old daughter tested positive for strep after flu like symptoms including abdominal pain. She was treated and the abdominal pain has continued for 3 weeks....xrays...ultrasounds....CT scan all look normal except for swollen lymph nodes in tummy. Only odd thing in massive blood work was ebstein bar antibodies from a past infection. She is on probiotics....acid blockers...acid Bently and is getting no relief...she cries out in pain...negative for celiac...I am beyond frustrated....hours in error and no help. Any ideas I can bring up to gi doctor tomorrow?

I have gone through your daughter's medical history carefully and understood your concerns.

You are reporting that :
- she has a previous history of Ebstein barre virus infection
- currently having abdominal pain with swollen lymph nodes in abdomen as reported by ct-scan
At this point, I need to know if :
- she is also having diarrhea? Or other bowel problems?
- the lymph nodes noted were reactive or not? Full ct-scan report is requested.

To my opinion, everything she is facing now is due to possible reactivisation of Ebstein barre virus.

I advise to :
- encourage her to drink plenty of fluids preferably water
- ask her doctor to start antispasmodic medications as you need prescription for that.

You can discuss my advice with her gi specialist.

Do you think it could be toxins? Have you ever seen a case like this? What testing would you do? She has had issues with constipation but this started with diarrhea. They have her taking miralax. Could candida cause this? Please try to give me ideas....she can't handle the pain and is almost always in tears.

I am really sorry for the painpainful situation your daughter is in.

If such pain has been going on for several days without getting improvement, if I was her caring doctor would advise to repeat ct-scan with contrast to reevaluate the abdominal lymph nodes. I want to make sure we are not dealing with a case of lymphoma as long as the pain has not subsided.

Candida and intestinal parasites are to get excluded through fecal analysis and culture.
