What Causes Abdominal Pain?

default
Posted on Sat, 7 Jun 2014
Question: I have abdominal pain in my RIF but its not appendicitis as ive had blood and urine tests 10 days ago and they showed no infection. I have been suffereing with discomfort in this quadrant for almost 2 weeks and it doesn't seem to be disappearing. I have visited doctors but they dont seem to be much help. I have no fever, no vomiting, no diarrhoea. My stools are soft/hard and vary from pellets to 2-4 inches long. i generally feel a bit down by it, though i dont feel ill. I am just curious to what it could be? IBD?IBS?Allergy/Intolerance?

Brief Answer:
unlikely to be IBD/IBS/intolerance

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

Thanks for writing to HCM .

Unlikely to be IBD/IBS because in these conditions there usually be diffuse pain and more in left side of abdomen. There usually be loose stools , increased frequency and blood in stools .

Unlikely to be intolerance . In this there usually be loose stools after taking allergic food .

If a patient comes to me with similar complaints I usually advice to take ultrasound abdomen . The reasons are to rule out the following conditions which commonly cause pain in RIF.

1)Chronic appendicitis - In this the blood and urine test may be normal . Pain may be only symptom.

2)right ureteric stone- any stone stuck in the right ureter may cause such pain . Here also blood and urine test may be normal . This pain may radiate down to genitals.

3)mesenteric lymph node swelling- in this blood report may show some infection with normal urine test.

Treatment depends on the diagnosis which is usually done with the help of ultrasound abdomen.

Hope I have answered your query. If further queries are there I would love to help.

Regards
