What Causes Abnormal Prolonged Period Bleeding?

Question: Hi my name is XXXXX, I am going to be 51 next month. I missed a period in April.then started to bleed in the second week of May and have been bleeding since. It's not heavy but like a normal period. Is this the start of menopause.
Brief Answer:
Yes, this could be your menopause.
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXXXX,
Thanks for sharing your problem with us.
Irregular periods occur around menopause, due to an-ovulatory cycles. So, yes, this could be a potential start of your menopause.
However, any abnormal bleeding after 40 need evaluation to exclude malignancy.
First test you need is a trans-vaginal ultrasound to see endometrial thickness. If this is normal, good enough. If it is increased you need an endometrial biopsy & Hysteroscopy (if facilities are present).
Further management depend upon your results.
wish you good health.
