What Causes Abnormal Sensations On Left-sided Face And Arm Post Intake Of Cipro?

default
Posted on Sat, 11 Jun 2016
Question: I was recently in the hospital (7 days) with an abscess and was given cipro and flagyl. I came home with a prescription for the cipro. After I had almost finished it I began to have a weird feeling or sensation on my left side--especially in my face and arm and once in awhile in my leg. Do you think this could be an effect of the medicine? Or do you have any other ideas? s I

Brief answer- Could be side effects of ciprofloxacin
Detailed answer
Hello,
Thanks for the query.
I have read your query and understand your concern.
I feel  your symptoms are due to side effects of ciprofloxacin.
In rare cases, ciprofloxacin can cause crawling, tingling, numbness and pins and needles type of sensation.
I don't think there should be anything to worry and moreover your course is also finished.
In case your symptoms don't go away in next few days or worsen, then you should consult your doctor.
There is nothing to be done right now except wait and watch.
I think it would be better to appraise your treating doctor about this.
I hope this helps, however you are most welcome to revert to me for any further query.
Best of luck
Thanks

Should I appraise my doctor of this now or wait a few days to see if these sensations go away? I have been off the cipro since Sunday morning. It does seem to be worse at night when I'm trying to sleep. I'm also under a great deal of stress with an upcoming surgery. Do you think this anxiety might be part of the problem?

Hello,
It would be better to apprise your doctor of your symptoms now.
High level of anxiety can also contribute to the worsening of your symptoms.
Your doctor may prescribe some anti anxiety medication to relieve your anxiety and help you with sleep in night.
Thanks
