What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Bleeding After Intercourse?

default
Posted on Mon, 24 Jul 2017
Question: I have went to doctor several times over the past 7 months. My pap were normal, cultures normal, took all kinds of medicines, ultra sound normal, then had biopsy of crrvix and uterus all normal. No std, no hpv, tested for everything imaginable and all clear. Doc said nothing is wrong and has no idea why my cervix is bleeding. I have no pain, I just bleed after sex. He mentioned freezing my cervix. Would that stop the bleeding? What could cause this bleeding to continue! It's very annoying.

Please provide some more information.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there, Dr. Purushottam Neurgankar welcomes you to HCM virtual clinic. I have understood your concern and I will suggest you the best possible treatment options.

I would like to know some more information about your problem.
Since how long are you getting this kind of bleeding after intercourse?
Is it painful bleeding and painful sex activity?
Had your treating gynecologist mentioned about something like cervical erosion- meaning some raw bleeding area on the cervix?
Are you having trusted sex partner and is he free from STDs?

If you have already been investigated thoroughly, and given the medical treatment also, then there is a possibility that your doctor wants to use Cryo cauterization of the cervix.

Please provide some more information about your problem,so it will help me suggest you better optios.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.

I have been married 18 years. Same partner. Test negative for all STD. Cultures all normal. Blood work all normal. Ultra sound normal. My doctor said he had no idea why my cervix bleeds. He said there is nothing on it. It's just sensitive and when he presses it bleeds. He gave me a biopsy of my cervix and uterus to be sure there was nothing unchecked. They came back normal as well. He said biopsy was all he had left to check me with. When they called and gave me results of biopsy they said if it continued and bothered me ( which it does) they could discuss freezing my cervix. I wondered if they did that if it would stop the bleeding. He said he honestly can't figure out what's up with it. I just want the bleeding after and during sex to end. It annoying. I'd never know about it if I never had sex. No pain, nothing. He gave me flagyl and antibiotic during this time. I'm so over it. Makes me just want a total hysterectomy. Thank you

Brief Answer:
One more medicine course, prefer Cryo over hysterectomy.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there, thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back.

I can appreciate the agony that you must be going through.
Your treating doctor has rightly suggested for freezing,Cryo cauterization.

In my opinion, please seek prescription support from your treating doctor for a broad spectrum antibiotic, antifungal agents and vaginal pessary. I usually suggest a week long course to my patients in such situations.

If it provides relief, you can postpone Cryo procedure.

Please, consider that treating cervical pathology as suggested by your gynecologist, should be preferred over hysterectomy. As in this case uterus is not at fault. And hysterectomy is a measure surgical procedure and should be avoided as far as possible.
It has its own merits and demerits.

I hope this answer helps you.
Thanks.

Brief Answer:
Right antibiotics. Cryo should heal the cervix within 2 cycles.

Detailed Answer:
Hi there.
Thanks for appreciating the answer and reverting back.

Your treating gynecologist has rightly suggested you the antibiotics.
Also, use vaginal tablets as discussed earlier.

In most of the patients, in whom Cryo cauterization-freezing, is done , the cervical problem usually gets curred within next 2 menstrual periods.

I hope this answer helps you.
Please feel free to communicate with me again if needed.

Thanks.
