What Causes Abnormal Vaginal Odor?
Question: my wife thought she had a yeast infection and went and purchase an over counter medicine. She notice she was having a discharge with an odor. She went to doctor and doctor stated she had trichomoniasis. she was given medicine. I then went to doctor. I had no symptoms of any kind. Was given medicine and a shot. This is mind boggling for both of us. We have always had a faithful marriage and cant seem to understand how this happen.. Is there any other way that trichomoniasis can be gotten other than what the doctor said which was only through sex.

Trichomoniasis is virtually always sexually transmitted. Although survival on fomites (pillows, towels, door handles, things used publically) has been reported, fomites have no proven role in transmission. Women can acquire the disease from other women, but men do not usually transmit the infection to other men.
Did the doctor saw the trichomonas in a microscope, or verified it by tests, or he just thought it clinically?
Doctors nowdays are a bit mistrustful when it comes to gynecological/genital symptoms, because in many occasions patients don't tell them the truth about sexual history because of the stigma that is related to it. So they treat every symptom there as a sexually transmitted infection just to be sure.
If you are faithful to each other then there is no reason to doubt that.
If the doctor has not verified trichomonas with tests, then there is another diagnoses, that he hasn't considered that give discharge with fishy odor and that is not sexually transmitted. That is Bacterial Vaginosis, which is treated in the same way as trichomonas.
