Brief Answer:
Officially unknown, but there are a few floating causes being suggested

Detailed Answer:
Hello ma'am and welcome.

Thank you for writing to us.

I have gone through your query with diligence and would like you to know that I am here to help. The actual established causes for achalasia of course are none as you must also know.

But many studies have tried to find an association with a few conditions after studying subjects who have the conditions. Some of the suggested theories include:

+A previous infection or ongoing infection that can result in structural (muscle, nerves) changes, scar tissue, etc; that can result in the development of achalasia

+Autoimmune diseases: These are conditions in which the body attacks itself causing damage that can result in achalasia

+Hereditary

Apart from the above suggested theories, there is nothing else being currently discussed. But until a proper association can be established, officially the cause for achalasia still remains unknown.

I hope you find my response helpful. Please feel free to write back to me for any further clarifications, I would be more than happy to help.

Best wishes.
