What Causes Acute Pain In Upper Right Abdomen?
Liver enlarged due to infection or ?alcohol intake
Detailed Answer:
Hi XXXX
Thanks for writing in to us.
I have read through your query in detail.
The size of your liver is enlarged and it also shows fatty changes. This is commonly seen in people with regular intake of alcohol. If the enlargement of liver is recent then it can be due to any infective or inflammatory condition affecting the liver. The pain in the right upper abdomen can also be due to the enlarged liver as the gall bladder, kidneys and pancreas are described as normal in your ultrasound report. Urine infection cannot be commented upon in your report as the bladder was not completely full at the time of your scan. Urinary infection is better confirmed with urine culture tests.
If there is pain in right upper abdomen and fever then complete blood count with tests for common infections like typhoid fever is important.
I would like to know if you are overweight or take alcohol and fatty foods regularly, then the liver enlargement causes other than infection must be evaluated in details. Also it is important to know what medications you are taking presently.
Please do write back with updates.
Regards,
Dr.Vivek
