Question: Hello! I'm a 65 yr old female, relatively good health (treated for hypo active thyroid). About a month ago I had a head cold. Since then my smell/taste senses are not working too well. Is this permanent?

Brief Answer:
Supportive care, no worries

Detailed Answer:
Thank you for asking

I read your question and i understand your concern. History of recent cold followed by decline of senses of smell and taste is normal. With hypothyroid status , recovery is slow any ways thats whys its taking longer. You not taking medicines for supportive treatment of cold is another reason for that. Nuthsell there is nothing to worry about . these are common sequelae and sooner or later diminishes and senses came back to their normal amplitudes. Meanwhile, use some garlic water mouth rinses, salt water gargles and take soem decongestants if still have cold sequelae . Some advil will help too.

If the symptoms persists, get evaluated for other causes of dysgeusia (reduced sense of taste) and hyposmia ( reduced smell sense).

I hope it helps. Take good care of yourself and don't forget to close the discussion please.
