Brief Answer:
Get a complete stool examination

Detailed Answer:
Hi Mam.

I understand your concern.

IBS and spastic colon per se do not cause any abnormal fecal smell.

In all such cases, its extremely important to rule out bowel infection.

For this ,a complete stool examination including study for occult blood along with ultrasound abdomen to rule out organic causes is needed.

Based on the results, antibiotics like tinidazole and ofloxacin can be started.

Also consumption of dietary fiber about 50 gm/day is indicated.

Avoid dairy products if possible.

Thank you

Thank you. I do have bad stomach pains after eating from my stomach to my lower colon. I have been taking Linese so have diarrhea alot but when I don't have diarrhea is when I get burnt smell. I do have blood but that is from hemorrhoids. I had a colonoscopy that was clear except for inflammation and scope to stomach which showed polyps in my stomach but was told they were benign

Brief Answer:
Polyps and hemorrhoids need removal.

Detailed Answer:
Hi

I understand your concern.

You seem to have infectious colitis which is causing malodour of the stool.

The stomach pain post eating is due to associated malabsorption secondary to polyps.

Its advisable that you get these polyps removed even though they are benign.

Hemorrhoids need evaluation and surgical repair if possible ,since they can largely contribute to infection of the lower gut.

Antibiotics like ofloxacin 400 mg and ornidazole 400 mg twice a day for 21 days will help to clear all the gut infection and associated inflammation.

Specific drug therapy for recurrent colonic inflammation would be immunosuppressants like azathioprine and sulphasalzine.

Please note all the above mentioned drugs need to be taken only after strict medical prescription and supervision.

Thank you.
