What Causes Ankle Pain While Stretching Legs?

I had a ligament tear in my right ankle on September while playing football. I visited an orthopaedician. in continental Hospital. He examined it and asked me to wear splint for about three weeks. I used splint for a month and removed it as my I did not have any pain. He also recommended not to play football for sometime as the internal injury will take sometime to get cured.
My ankle is alright now. but there is a slight pain when I try to stretch my ankle in all possible directions. I have some questions:
1. Could you suggest me some exercises which would strengthen my ankle as it was before?
2. One of my friend told me that if I have a ligament tear in ankle, I can never play football as before and it is better to stop playing football. Is it so?
Thanks,
XXXX
Hot compress will help in reducing mild pain.
Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query.
The mild pain in the ankle on stretching could be due to post traumatic stiffness. This will gradually decrease with hot compress and mild stretching exercises that you need to learn from a proficient physiotherapist who after a direct examination will suggest the exercises best for you according to the range of movement of the ankle joint.
You can play football as you were playing before in next 2-3 months. The ligaments will take some time and exercise to regain the flexibility.
I hope this answers your query.
