What Causes Back Pain, Dark Urine And High Level Of Protein In Urine?
infection most common cause
Detailed Answer:
HI, thanks for using healthcare magic
Protein in the urine (proteinuria) can have different possible causes.
(a)Most commonly can be due to infection, which would also cause pain. In this case, the urine may have also shown leucocytes or nitrites.
Infections can be easily treated with antibiotics.
(b)if you have chronic illnesses like diabetes or high blood pressure- these can cause proteinuria
(c)autoimmune diseases
(d)multiple myeloma
(e)disease where abnormal products stored in the body
(f)other kidney diseases affecting a part of the kidneys called the glomerulus
(g)orthostatic- physical activity or a lot of standing before can cause this problem
(h)trauma , stones
To determine exact cause, your doctor may suggest: (1) urine sent to lab for microscopy where they look under the microscope to see if a specific cause can be found- if infection suspected, none of the other tests would be done
(2)24 hour urine collection to determine exactly how much urine is loss over a 24 period
(3)blood tests would also be needed- protein in blood , cholesterol, creatinine (checks kidney function)
(4)imaging of the urinary tract
Summary: infection is the most common cause, this can be easily treated with antibiotics
Cause can be determined by further tests- urine to lab, blood test, 24 hour urine
If a stone suspected, would need an ultrasound
I hope this helps, feel free to ask any other questions
need to increase fluid intake
Detailed Answer:
HI
Sorry about the delayed reply
There are different types of kidney stones.
PREVENTION
(a)One of the most important aspects in preventing further formation would be to increase your daily fluid intake, this decreases the chance of the urine becoming saturated and stones forming.
At least 8 glasses or more should be used unless you have a medical reason cannot use a lot of fluids eg heart failure
(b)avoid excess salt and protein intake
(c) your doctor may also suggest a 24 hour urine analysis test though this may sometimes only be done if a stone recurs.
the most common reasons for stones are increased calcium in urine or increased uric acid in urine or increase oxalate in urine or low citrate levels or decrease urine amount.
A 24 hour sample can determine which of these is the case
This would also for adjustment of diet, medication, nutrients etc
As mentioned may be done if recurs
(d) an ultrasound is sometimes suggested to take a look at the kidneys
