Detailed Answer:
Hello,
Thanks for posting your query on HealthcareMagic.
Development os patches of
baldness on the scalp can occur due to primary and secondary skin lesions.
Most important and common cause of bald patch is autoimmunity called
alopecia.
In alopecia, the loss of hair is sudden, the bald patch is clean and some bits of hair shaft may be seen. There is no itching or any other symptom.
There are other skin diseases in which baldness can occur e.g.
lichen planus.
Fungal infections can also cause hair loss.
However, in case of fungal infection, the bald patch is not very clean, it may be accompanied by itching.
The hair loss in case of fungal infection is reversible.
However, in case of alopecia and lichen planus it is irreversible and
steroids may have to be used for hair growth.
However, a clinical examination is must by a
dermatologist to make a diagnosis and thus appropriate treatment.
