Question: My adopted grandaughter has alot of passive/aggressive actions. She has had epilepsy since she was small. She had brain surgery a little over a year ago and her behavior has gotten worse. She is from the XXXXXXX Islands and her biological family has some reported personality behaviors. She is living with me.
Her behavior is frightening me. What can I do?

Brief Answer:
Consultation

Detailed Answer:
Hello, and thanks for your question.

It sounds like your granddaughter has behavioral issues stemming from organic brain disease. This can be very difficult to treat and manage, and you know. There are a few different approaches. First, she needs a comprehensive medical evaluation to ensure she is not having simple partial seizures causing abnormal behavior. Next, she needs to be enrolled in a therapeutic school focused on behavioral management. She may benefit from medications such as atypical neuroleptics (risperidone or aripiprazole). Finally, if her behavior becomes dangerous, she should be taken to an ER for emergent psychiatric evaluation.
