What Causes Black And Blue Discoloration In Face After A Head Trauma?
Question: My 86 year old mom bumped her forehead and now her face from eyes down to chin turned black and blue. She had no pain but it looks awful. Anything we should be doing?
Brief Answer:
it is a bruise; takes 7-10days to start disappearing
Detailed Answer:
Hello.
Welcome to HCM.
This is Dr. Swarnava Dattagupta answering your query.
It is called as a bruise.
Dont worry. It is very common to occur in face after a head trauma, more pronounced in elderly as skin and subcutaneous tissue is loose and lax. It changes colour gradually and starts disappearing after 7-10 days. It can take even 3-4 weeks to disappear completely. You can apply ice over it to fasten the process and give trypsin-chymotrypsin combination tablets to reduce swelling if any.
Hope this was useful.
Regards.
