What Causes Black Stool And Stomach Discomfort?

default
Posted on Thu, 19 Jun 2014
Question: I am a 91 yo female. For the past 4 days I have had a black stool. Regular, bland diet - no stomach discomfort. Have had some digestive discomfort at night after going to bed. Have been unable to sleep, and have leg cramps several times a night. This means getting out of bed and walking around until the pain is gone. Had heart bypasses several years ago. Do not have this problem in daytime. Have been taking 500mg calcium/Vitamin D 200 unit tab daily.

Brief Answer:
needs further evaluation

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I went through the query and understood your concern.

Black stool may be due to change in food habit or dur to internal bleeding. Considering your past history and medications the chance internal bleeding is more. Stool examination is required to ruleout any bleeding along with BP and hemoglobin monitoring.

Pain in legs may be due to multiple reasons. Based on your history the most common cause is Imbalance in blood/nutrient supply.

For now avoid any hard food, have plenty of water. Get stool examination once with complete hemogram. Monitor your pulse rate more often. Consult your doctor once for examination. .

I hope this information helps you and answered your questions. Feel free to ask for any further queries. I will be glad to answer them.

Wish you good health and faster recovery.

Regards
