What Causes Bleeding From Mouth?

default
Posted on Fri, 26 Dec 2014
Question: Hello, I am a 30 year old female. 5 days ago I woke up in middle of night and spit put dark red blood clots. I went to bed with burning pain in my stomach that night. So I went to ER they did cheat X-ray and blood work all of which came back normal. I followed up with the dr in two days and she said it's probably related to my rhinitis and GERD. She stated she wasn't concerned and didn't order any more tests.
Today I spit light pink blood and felt like coming from my throat. Would GERD cause bleeding? Should I seek a second opinion?
And to add to this. I just started taking omeprezole and nasal steroids as Dr said I have severe rhinitis.
I also get pain beneath my breast bone and my throat is very sore at times.

Brief Answer:
Angina/upper GI bleeding are possibilities here...

Detailed Answer:
Hi,

I have gone through your medical history carefully and I am sorry for the situation you are in.

1. Bleeding from mouth might be related to angina (tonsillitis). When they get inflamed , they can easily lacerated, causing bleeding.

2. However, you are reporting to spit out dark red blood clots, which are suggestive for possible upper GI bleeding (from stomach, etc.). Have you ever noticed :
- black stool?
- or having other problems with bowel movements?

3. I'd advise to consult with GI specialist for further evaluations.

4. For the moment, can continue taking Omeprazole for GERD.

Hope it was of help! Let me know if I can be of further help!

Brief Answer:
There is nothing worrisome,,,,can still consult with GI specialist

Detailed Answer:
Hi back,

Thank you for providing additional information. As long there is no black stool present , then there is nothing worrisome. However, I still think you should have further consultation with GI specialist.

All the best!
