What Causes Bleeding From Superficial Veins?

default
Posted on Wed, 1 Oct 2014
Question: My husband has fragile superficial viens on his feet and lower legs. Occasionally there is a tiny hole worn in one and he bleeds profusely. If we don't notice, he is leaves a trail of blood when he walks, he can leave a puddle of blood on the carpet approximately 18 inches by 12 inches with a clot covering most of the area. That happened last night. We put a pressure bandage on the spot and it stopped. It sometimes happens when he is in bed. Sometimes with a shoe on, one time it bled after he dried his legs after a bath. Any suggestions, except to watch and catch the next time it flows?

Brief Answer:
Surgical & non surgical treatment is there.

Detailed Answer:
Hi, dear
I have gone through your question. I can understand your concern. You have bleeding from your superficial veins. Mostly it may be due venous insufficiency. Many persons have enlarged veins and it bevomes fragile and bleed. You can use compression bandage or you can use some lotion to keep your leg moist. These will help you to prevent bleeding. Permanent treatment is surgical. Valve repair surgery in case of insufficiency or you can totally remove superficial veins if needed. These are some options to prevent bleeding from your fragile vein. Consult your surgeon and plan out for that and take treatment accordingly.
Hope I have answered your question, if you have doubt then I will be happy to answer.
