What Causes Bleeding Under Skin After Taking Depo-medrol Injection?
Question: after taking injections of depo-medrol , 20mg/mi about every three weeks, it caused bleeding under skin resembling a blood blister usually along a vein . thin skin on hands and feet . removed a bandage on left hand , caused a quarter sized piece of epidermis to come off. feet are shedding skin but no bleeding. I have had chronic gout for the last 30 years.i did not have this problem previous to the injections . I take iv's of ketorolac 30 mg, hydromorphone 1 mg during the same period. I no longer take depo-medrol. any solurtions.

I think you are suffering from Gout and to get relief from pain you are using a depo-medrol injection. I want to tell you that when you use steroids for long time you get some of the side effects. This side effect is epidermal atrophy as complained by you as a skin shedding but no bleeding. This effect will not appear when you use it for short time but as you are a patient of Gout you have to use it frequently that I understand.
There are some other kind of treatment newly available in the market "Monoclonal Antibodies" which is very helpful to the persons who is having side effects with the steroids you can discuss that with your treating Doctor. By using this you will have to use low dose of steroids.
For the purpose of maintenance there are some other drugs available that you can discuss with your treating doctor like Colchicine, Allopurinol, Diuretics.
