What Causes Blocked Nose While On Amlodipine?
Question: I am on Amlodipine for quite a while now; but recently - about a year now, I have been continuously experiencing blocked and bloody nose - the nose does not bleed (running) as such; but it's always bloody - I see blood when I use a tissue paper; could it be a side effect of the medication? What should I do?

1. Amlodipine has been claimed to be associated with rhinitis in less than 1% of patients. It is a rare but reported side effect.
2. Amlodipine can cause increase in any tendency to bleed. However it is directly responsible for bleed in rare cases. Less than 1% users report bleeding tendency or low platelet count.
3. Amlodipine may be perpetuating the condition but is least likely to be only responsible reason. Since we can not rule it out 100% , you should get evaluation by a nose specialist. If he can not pinpoint a local cause for your problem, get in touch with your physician for a possible change of drug.
