What Causes Blood After Urination?

default
Posted on Thu, 22 Jan 2015
Question: I am 72 years old, long past menopause; however, in November I found blood after urinating, had two separate urine tests, which were negative. Now on Christmas I had another episode, which only occurred once. What tests should I have? What could possibly be the cause?

Brief Answer:
Was blood in urine or underwear?

Detailed Answer:
Hi and thanks for using our services.

I will like to know if this blood was in urine or found in the genital area after urination. If this blood was found in the genital area, then getting evaluated by an OBGYN would be the best thing to do. However, if the blood was in urine, I will suggest that you get your urine checked again. If no answers are obtained, I will further recommend cystoscopy, a procedure which is used in looking into the bladder directly for any abnormal growths. This is very important when urine blood comes out at the end of the urine stream.

In all, the genital tract and the bladder would be investigated accordingly. When you next find blood in your urine, it would be necessary to keep that sample if possible as previous samples failed to identify blood in urine and probably disregarded the information.

I hope this helps. I wish you well. Feel free to ask for more information and clarifications if need be.
